A RARE OPPORTUNITY: FALL BENEFIT                      SUNDAY, OCTOBER 24
Please join Art Encounter for an afternoon of rarely-seen, significant works of art, wine and hors d’oeuvres with Chicago’s noted collectors Lynn and Allen Turner in their spectacular Greek town loft.  We’ll see major works by Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, Alex Katz , Jean Dubuffet, John Chamberlain and Chuck Close. Proceeds benefit Art Encounter’s ARTiculations, anart & writing project in Chicago Public Schools.

Sign up for an exclusive tour of Chicago’s most imaginative international expo, now celebrating its 16th year, before it opens to the public for the day.  Discover fine art stemming from craft mediums, taken to new extremes in both form and imagination.  Let us guide you through the maze of galleries from around the world featuring work by the most prominent artists as well as new talent in studio glass, fiber works, wood, decorative arts, welded furniture and jewelry.  You will discover humor and poignancy in this extraordinary show.Lunch with other participants and spend the afternoon exploring on your own.  Your Art Encounter entry ticket is also good for the following day.

Mr. Carney, named Philanthropist of the Year by West Suburban Philanthropic Network, is graciously opening his Glen Ellyn home for Art Encounter Friends to explore his extensive collection of Chicago as well as contemporary internationally acclaimed artists.  Carney has served on collectors boards for the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Art Institute of Chicago and has a keen eye for thought provoking and visually stimulating works in different media.  His collection was recently shown at the Elmhurst Museum where it filled all of the museums exhibition spaces.  Among the over 750 works in the collection, we’ll see pieces by Ed Paschke, Roxy Paine, Jenny Holzer, Joseph Marioni, Thomas Nozkowski, Mel Bochner, Jim Nutt, Tony Tasset, Ann Wilson, Judy Ledgerwood, Tony Fitzpatrick and Richard Rezac.

CHANGING DIMENSIONS: SCULPTURE IN THE NEW WING        
Join Joanna Pinsky for three sessions in the New Wing of the Art Institute to explore the development of ideas in sculpture from the twentieth to the twenty-first century.  

Session 1:  Breaking Away: Influences of Cubism and Surrealism in the first half of the twentieth century.
Session 2:  The Head and the Heart: Primary Structures, Earth Art and Pop Art. 
Session 3:  You Call that Sculpture? Contemporary works that challenge previous notions of what constitutes sculpture ranging from art made of stuffed animals, light bulbs, text and video art.

Dates: Wednesdays, January 12, 19, 26
Place:  The Art Institute of Chicago – meet at the Monroe St. entrance
